THE INTERNET AND THE AURORA PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Each student and staff member who wishes to receive an Internet account and/or Internet access through Aurora Public School facilities must first read a description of their rights and responsibilities related to Internet usage. This document is listed below as "Terms and Conditions of Internet Access at Aurora Hills." All individuals who receive Internet Access privileges must participate in a site or District Internet training program.
Each individual is then required to fill out an "Internet Use Agreement" form. The student form requires a parent/guardian and teacher signature as well as the student’s signature. By signing this form, Internet users are agreeing to the terms and conditions.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
This information is designed to help students clearly understand their responsibilities as users of the Internet network and to provide examples of appropriate and inappropriate use. If
Internet users have any questions about the legitimacy of their activities, they should ask a staff member. The following guidelines should be followed by all individuals using the Internet:
- Use of the Internet must be consistent with the educational objectives of Aurora Public Schools.
- As a user of this community system, you must notify a teacher or system administrator of any violations taking place.
- Always log in and log out properly when accessing the Internet.
- Always make sure that proper arrangements have been made for paying for your on line time.
- Protect yourself and your personal information by not sharing your password, address or phone number with others.
- Respect the rights and privacy of others by not attempting to break into other Internet computer systems or altering anyone else’s data, files or account.
- Changing system software or program configurations and/or corrupting the system by creating or distributing viruses is prohibited.
- Be an ethical and considerate user and avoid monopolizing the resources of Aurora Hills Internet access system by running large jobs or downloads during the day, sending massive amounts of mail or chain letters, misusing real-time multi-user conference or chat features, or using system resources for games.
- Material that is defamatory, obscene, lewd, vulgar, profane, sexually oriented, racially offensive, illegal or encourages illegal activity (including the use of controlled substances) infringes on the rights of others and is not consistent with the educational objectives of the Aurora Public Schools
- Illegal activities may not be conducted via the network.
- Commercial advertising for goods and/or services and political lobbying over the network is unacceptable.
- Comply with copyright laws.
- Downloaded materials should always be scanned for viruses and saved to your personal disk.
- All communications and information accessible via the network should be assumed to be private property.
- When using electronic mail be polite (do not use inappropriate language, vulgarities, etc.).
Please remember that the access Aurora Hills is providing you to the Internet is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use will result in suspension or cancellation of your privileges and possible disciplinary action.

I understand that Internet access is provided for educational purposes and that Aurora Hills has taken available precautions to eliminate access to controversial material. However, I also recognize it is impossible to restrict access to all controversial or inappropriate materials. I will not hold Aurora Hills or the Aurora Public Schools responsible for materials my child may acquire on the network. I understand that my child will receive instruction on the proper use of the Internet and will review the Internet Use Agreement with an Aurora Hills staff person. Further, I accept full responsibility for supervision if and when my child's Internet use is not in a school setting.
