Objectives

  • to learn about the student's occupation of choice through "real-world" experience;
  • to test occupational career aspirations;
  • to develop a more mature attitude toward academic and professional preparation;
  • to relate classroom instruction to professional goals;
  • to experience situations that cannot be provided in the classroom

Requirements

You are required to keep a journal of your internship activities. At a minimum each journal entry should contain date and time worked, a brief entry explaining what duties were performed, and a sentence or two of personal reflection on the experience. Make sure that your journal is initialed by your work supervisor on a weekly basis.

I'll check in with your supervisor periodically to see how things are going, and you should feel free to check in with me as well if you have questions or concerns. At the end of the semester I'll ask your supervisor for an evaluation of your work. The Student Intern Performance Evaluation Form will be used to evaluate your performance. Please note that the form requires signatures from both you and your supervisor.

A final paper relating class studies to the internship experience is required. The paper should be submitted electronically to samuel.ebersole@colostate-pueblo.edu on or before the last day of final exam week. The paper should:

  • Describe academic principles or concepts that you used or saw being used. Discuss why they were or were not effective.
  • Explain in detail what experience(s) you found to be most significant.
  • Describe the recommendation you would give another student about this experience.

Attendance will be the full responsibility of the student. Treat this opportunity like a job, and do your best to make a good impression. It is also highly recommended that you collect copies of documents or products of your work for your professional portfolio.

Evaluation

Your grade will be based on the evaluation of your supervisor, the final paper, and a review of your journal.
