CD-ROM The acronym CD-ROM, stands for Compact Disk Read Only Memory, and these curious little devices are pretty much seen everywhere today. The CD-ROM was invented in 1984 by Philips and Sony, and was first used to write access amounts of information to a single disk; companies like, GM, Ford and Chrysler employed these new compact disks for the purpose of storing parts and repair information that was taking up too much room in other storage facilities. |
