Cryptology
Cryptology-also known by direct definition as the "science of secure communications" has a long and meticulous history. The reason is simple; as long as man has been capable of war there has been a need to hide meaning in code. The actual history of cryptology stretches far beyond the dawn of this age, however the first people to employ a decoding device (a cipher device) were the Spartans. They concocted a curious little gadget called a "scytale" which to the untrained eye looked like a baton with parchment paper attached to it. When examined, the parchment seamed to consist of haphazardly placed letters that made no sense, but when wrapped around the base of another baton, revealed a hidden message. This is the first historical evidence of a crypto graphical code, as we know them today. Today, cryptology is more widely practiced that ever before and the need for scholars in this field of study will no doubt increase with each passing year of the information age. Now crypto graphical applications are applied to just about everywhere in the business world. Whenever a person or an organization that uses the Internet or a computer system needs security to hide access of their capital from the public, it is certain that they are using encrypted codes to communicate monetary value to each other. Breaking into encrypted accounts and other esoteric data banks, is the thrill for modern computer hackers. In fact, deciphering computer code is what they do which qualifies them as hackers. Today, companies that heavily invest in the electronic medium as a means to organize their businesses, hire ex-hackers to break their codes and test their encryptions to establish the level of security that they possess.
