Bandwidth

Bandwidth is defined as information that can be transmitted at any given time over a network in a measurement volume. The bandwidth determines how much data can pass over the network. [1]

Another defintion is a range within a band of frequencies or wavelength. The amount of data that can be transmitted in a fixed amount of time. Within digital devices, the bandwidth is used in terms of bits per second(bps) or bytes per second. With analog devices, the bandwidth is used in terms of cycles per second or Hertz (HZ). [2]

Many people wonder how fast their connection needs to be and there is no common answer because it depends on the types of things that you would like on their server. If you have a large site you might consider gettting a bigger bandwidth explains Mike Meyer as he answers this fequently asked question. He has a rule of thumb about simultanous acess and unless you have a very large site it is not a problem. The second rule of thumb is the amount of time that it takes to send a page the rule is 5 seconds and for a external file it should take about 30 seconds. [3]
