ART 397/497 Studio Series in Photography and Digital Art

 

Requirements:

You are eligible with faculty permission to take a Studio Series once you have completed ALL the courses in your emphasis area. (One studio series per semester per studio)

 

  1. The studio series is linked to an emphasis area class.

 

  1. The student must attend the first 6 weeks, every critique and the final exam of the corresponding emphasis class. (Absences = minus 10 pts.)

 

  1. The student must teach a technique or topic appropriate to the class (within the first 5 weeks, 20 pts.).

 

  1. The student must assist with the students as a mentor during the first 6 weeks of class. (15 pts.)

 

  1. The student must participate and help facilitate with the class critiques.

 

  1. The Project proposal must be submitted by the third week of class.

 

  1. The scope of this project must be realized within the semester and reflect a mature extension of the studentŐs previous work and be presented at the final critique. (65 pts.) The final project will not be accepted late.

 

ART 497 - all of the above and in addition:

 

  1. The student must present their work in a public venue. (10 pts. of final prj.)

Studio Series 397 and 497

 

The studio series is designed to provide the students with learning and/or practical experiences beyond the class oriented courses.  When the student has successfully completed all the offered courses in a given area of the art department they may choose to go on to further study on an independent basis with an instructor in that particular discipline.  Because the student works independently with an instructor, it is expected that the course and the student effort be established in a mutually agreed upon statement.  This should be done at the outset of the semester.

 

Studio Series 397/497 Requirements:

 

q      All the offered courses in the emphasis area must be successfully completed.

q      45 hours of work per credit (3 credits = 135 hours =10 hrs per week)

q      Tutoring is not provided. Work is self-directed.

q      Students are required to meet during the professorŐs office hours for monthly progress reports for feedback and guidance.

q      Semester portfolio is due the week before finals.

q      A total of three 397 courses should precede 497.
