Kinesiology

Spring 2004

Instructor:

George Dallam, Ph.D.

Course Description

The course will cover human musculoskeletal anatomy and the associated application of biomechanical concepts useful in analyzing and improving the efficiency, safety and effectiveness of complex human movements used in sport and exercise.

Course Objectives

1. Describe the basic anatomical and physiological processes that relate to movement.
2. Describe the muscular, soft tissue and joint anatomy associated with the major joints.
3. Describe the etiology and prevention of injuries associated with these joints and excessive or improper movement.
4. Describe the basic principles of physics that affect human motion.
5. Describe the application of these concepts to efficient human movement.
6. Apply biomechanical principles to the analysis and correction of complex sport movements to improve efficiency and prevent injury.
