
The course will extend personal wellness concepts and skills presented in Personal Health (EXHP 162) into practical laboratory experiences focused on self-assessment and personal application.
During scheduled activity sessions, students should dress in a way which will allows for full participation. In both fitness assessment activities and a variety of exercise programs.
1. Evaluate your personal state of wellness. 2. Evaluate your behavior change status. 3. Create a behavioral change plan and tools. 4. Assess your cardiovascular disease risk level. 5. Assess your cardio respiratory fitness and current activity level. 6. Assess your body composition, muscular fitness and flexibility, in particular as it relates to the prevention of back pain. 7. Design an exercise plan specific to your needs. 8. Assess your personal stress levels and sources. 9. Assess your nutrition status and eating behavior. 10. Assess your cancer risk. 11. Assess your diabetes risk. 12. Evaluate and clarify your substance use/abuse value system. 13. Evaluate and clarify your sexually transmitted disease value system. 13. Utilize assessments in creating your behavior change project for EXHP 162.

Grades are determined based on the following scale: A = 89.5-100%, B = 79.6-89.4%, C = 69.5-79.5%, D=<69.5%. * See evaluation policies below. **Students will complete lab activities associated with various aspects of personal wellness and the provide comments in response to lab questions posted by the instructor on the discussion board in Blackboard. Questions posted will address critical analysis of the assessment results and their calculations, meaningful applications of the knowledge learned, and understanding key concepts related to the personal health course material. A representative sample of these responses will be viewed and discussed in class.
· Quizzes and examinations will consist of multiple choice, true false, short answer and essay questions. · Lab assignments and/or quizzes completed late will lose 5% per class period unless prior arrangements for late completion are made with the instructor. · Lab participation points are earned through both attendance and active participation in discussion through the discretion of the instructor. Missed lab participation points can only be made up through alternative assignments obtained from the instructor prior to missing the lab.
1) Students who miss 3 or more lab classes may be subject to instructor withdrawal. 2) Students will be given credit separately for timely lab attendance and active participation in lab activities and face-to-face discussion. 3) Students who miss quizzes or examinations without prior arrangement with the instructor may not makeup those quizzes or examinations. Course materials are presented using a portable computer and digital projector. In addition, the course will be provided using Blackboard, interactive software available to registered students through the University Network. Blackboard provides the opportunity to open and print all course materials, follow general and threaded discussions with other students and the instructor, submit required course materials and work in a “virtual” environment, in addition to the traditional classroom and laboratory setting. Students should enter personal information in the course website and add the email address from which they will be communicating during semester. Please check with the instructor if you are not able to access the course website or the blackboard utility. Please also regularly check whatever email address you use in conjunction with Blackboard.
